The New Hampshire livestock industry is diverse and scattered throughout
the state. It is relatively small scale, but it makes a significant contribution
to the economy and helps maintain open space and the rural atmosphere that
makes N.H. a desirable state. Breeding stock from N.H. farms are respected
nation-wide for their quality and performance.
Many of N.H.'s livestock industries are limited in their ability to expand due to the high
cost of land and lack of large contiguous acreages. The trend is toward value-added products
and direct marketing to the consumer, with such things as grass-fed beef, farmstead cheese,
specialty meat products, etc.
